Covid-19 Update: May 18, 2020
Spring 2020 has been, and continues to be, strange. I wish I could work tomorrow, yet I’m anxious about returning too soon for fear of increasing the community’s COVID-19 infection rate. I plan to take clients starting May 26 and will adjust accordingly as things evolve. Please wear a decent mask when you are in our building including during treatment.
Talking in person must be kept at a minimum, even with masks, especially in the treatment room. For this summer at least, before people enter the lobby, I plan to ask clients about, and observe, their symptoms like breathing rate, temperature, coughing, malaise and low energy. This means you and I talk before your appointment or in the parking lot wearing masks. I will use a pulse oximeter to get an idea of your blood oxygen level and pulse rate, with your permission. Pulse oximeters, at least the one I will use, have accuracy limitations, but in the context of COVID-19, will be helpful in detecting low blood oxygen levels before respiration rate inevitably increases.
As time passes and we learn more about COVID-19, I may change this pre-massage protocol. Of course, if you don’t feel well, or just want to be cautious, reschedule with as much notice as you can give me, stay home and consider calling your physician/nurse.
Ideally, so that you don’t make an unnecessary trip, monitor your vitals for at least one week before your appointment. This way you can sense trends in your symptoms and not be alarmed by one reading. Thermometers and pulse oximeters readings can vary. Take your own pulse and respiratory rates and your temperature daily. I will do the same.
Cleaning protocols are being put in place soon at both of my locations. To minimize contamination please bring your own water. I will have hand sanitizer for everyone.
None of us at our house have any symptoms of COVID-19, so we have not been tested yet. Stay safe and stay sane!
